Plastic eating Bacteria found in Indian University

Plastic waste at seashore

As the plastics are not degradable, the plastic waste is the biggest problem in the world. Even though there are many plastic eating bacteria, Researchers at Delhi Shiv Nadar University in India have discovered two types of plastics-eating bacteria.

The two currently identified bacteria use plastic as a carbon source, creating a biofilm and altering the properties of polystyrene.

These bacteria contribute to natural degradation by releasing hydrolyzing enzymes to break down the polystyrene chains. Thus leading to degrade in an higher rate.

Those bacteria are Exiguobacterium sibiricum strine TR11, Exiguobacterium undae strine TR14 types.

These researchers found this type of bacteria from the nearby water bodies in their university.
