HIV eliminated from the genomes of living animals | HIV Elimination

Researches have for the first time eliminated replication-competent HIV-1 DNA -- The virus responsible for AIDS -- from the genomes of living animals. The study marks a critical step toward the development of a possible cure for human HIV infection.

The study involved LASER ART (Long-Acting Slow Effective Release with Antiretroviral Therapy) which is a strategy used by Dr.khalili and his colleagues to test mice infected with HIV. With the CRISPR-Cas9 (gene editing) method, the infected DNA sequence is edited.
